CarNet'Adapt, the creation of a Caribbean network for adaptation to climate change
The aim of the CarNet'Adapt project is to develop a Caribbean network to help our regions adapt to climate change. For its first phase, in 2023, the network will focus on agriculture and food in Martinique, Guadeloupe, Saint Lucia and Dominica.
Today, IPCC reports and various recent climatic events underline the extreme vulnerability of the Caribbean territory:
- More powerful extreme weather events
- Increasing temperatures
- More frequent and intense droughts; more intense rainfall
- Increasing coastal erosion
- Rising sea levels, risk of seawater intrusion and soil salinization
The agriculture and food sectors are directly exposed and particularly vulnerable to these hazards.
In 2015, the Small Island Developing States of the Caribbean mobilized strongly for the Paris Agreement and the limitation of global warming to 1.5°C.
Today, the INTERREG CarNet’Adapt project aims to build on this momentum. Today, the CarNet'Adapt INTERREG project aims to support this dynamic, inform decision-making and enable players to increase their skills in adapting the agricultural and food sectors of Caribbean territories to climate change.
